CHIANG MAI — Police in northern Thailand have arrested 15 Chinese nationals and two Myanmar employees during a raid on a luxury house allegedly used as a call centre scam base in Hang Dong district.
Provincial Region 5 police, led by Pol Lt Gen Kritthapol Yeesakhon, searched the residence in tambon Ban Waen on Tuesday after receiving reports that the property was purchased through Thai nominees and operated as a hub for online scams targeting Chinese nationals abroad.
Officers seized 10 computers, 26 mobile phones, and other equipment believed to be used in the criminal operation.
According to investigators, the scam network expanded its operations by buying or renting houses, condos, and hotel rooms across northern Thailand. The suspects allegedly established telecom systems to lure Chinese nationals into online gambling or entice them to casinos in neighbouring countries.
Thailand has become a central hub for coordinating such scams through social media and telecom platforms, police said.
Pol Lt Gen Kritthapol confirmed the investigation would be expanded further as part of an intensified crackdown on Chinese “grey businesses” operating in the upper North.
