Bangkok police have made a major breakthrough in the fight against narcotics trafficking after seizing more than 5.45 million methamphetamine pills worth an estimated 200 million baht. The dramatic bust, carried out on Wednesday evening at the Lat Krabang Airport Rail Link station parking lot, also led to the arrest of a drug courier.
Pol Lt Gen Siam Boonsom, commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB), announced the operation alongside senior narcotics officers on Thursday. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Adisorn Boonyanusanti, was taken into custody, while authorities seized a pickup truck, a mobile phone, and the massive shipment of drugs.
According to police, the bust followed intelligence gathered by MPB’s Division 3 in coordination with Rom Klao police. Officers had been tipped off about a suspicious pickup truck with fake license plates parked at the Lat Krabang station. Believing it to be carrying illegal drugs, they placed the vehicle under surveillance.
At around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, officers observed a man parking a motorcycle near the vehicle. Acting swiftly, they searched the truck and discovered 37 fertilizer sacks filled with methamphetamine pills. The drugs were individually wrapped in wax paper and stamped with the number “999,” a common marking used by trafficking networks in the region.
During questioning, Adisorn reportedly admitted he was working as a courier. He told police he was a motorcycle repairman by trade but had been recruited by a man known only as “Boss” to deliver meth pills to clients across Bangkok and neighboring provinces. He claimed he was paid 10,000 baht per delivery, and that the shipment originated from Bang Nam Priao district in Chachoengsao province.
Further investigation revealed that Adisorn was no stranger to the law. Records show he was previously arrested in 2014 for illegal possession of firearms in Lat Krabang. Police said his involvement in drug trafficking points to a broader criminal network operating across central Thailand.
“This operation shows the continued determination of the Metropolitan Police Bureau to crack down on major narcotics trafficking operations in the capital,” Pol Lt Gen Siam said at the press briefing. “The size of this seizure is significant and prevents millions of methamphetamine pills from reaching the streets.”
Adisorn has been charged with possession of Category 1 narcotics with intent to sell. He was handed over to Rom Klao police for further investigation and legal proceedings. Authorities are now working to trace the source of the drugs and identify the network leaders behind the operation.
Thailand continues to grapple with methamphetamine trafficking, particularly pills known locally as “yaba,” which are smuggled in large quantities from neighboring countries. The scale of this seizure highlights the persistent challenge facing law enforcement as criminal syndicates adapt their methods to evade capture.
With more than five million pills off the streets, officials say this operation represents a major success, but they warn that ongoing vigilance and intelligence-led policing remain crucial in the battle against narcotics.
