Police Bust Counterfeit Tax Disc Ring at Ratchada Car Rental

BANGKOK — Police have busted a counterfeit vehicle tax disc operation tied to a car rental business in Bangkok’s Ratchada area, following a raid on July 2.

The Metropolitan Police Bureau, led by Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom and Police Major General Noppasil Punsawat, executed a court-approved search of four locations, uncovering forged tax discs and related evidence.

The investigation originated in mid-June, when officers arrested two suspects for forging official documents and distributing fake annual vehicle tax discs online. Authorities allege the counterfeits were widely sold, posing risks to unsuspecting buyers and enabling fraudulent activity among businesses, including car rental operations.

Police also laid charges under cybercrime laws for importing falsified data into computer systems, potentially harming others or the public.

Evidence seized during the latest searches will be used to expand the probe, with police aiming to dismantle the broader network behind the forgery ring.
