The Royal Thai Navy has arrested six Chinese nationals and one Thai citizen suspected of involvement with an online scam syndicate operating out of Cambodia. The arrests occurred late on the night of August 15 at the Ban Phak Kat permanent border checkpoint in Pong Nam Ron District, Chanthaburi Province.
According to Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachaiyapan, Deputy Spokesman for the Navy, the operation was carried out in coordination with immigration officers, Marine Rangers, and Chanthaburi police investigators. At around 10:00 p.m., officers intercepted the group as they attempted to cross into Thailand illegally from Cambodia.
Authorities filed preliminary charges against the six Chinese nationals for entering and residing in the Kingdom without permission. The Thai citizen accompanying them was charged with facilitating their unlawful entry. Investigators noted evidence linking the group to large-scale online fraud operations across the Cambodian border, part of a growing regional problem involving transnational crime networks.
The suspects were transferred to Pong Nam Ron Police Station for further legal proceedings. Official reports have already been submitted to prosecutors and district authorities.
The Chanthaburi–Trat Border Protection Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Thailand’s borders, vowing not to allow them to become safe passageways for criminal organizations. Authorities also urged the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity or possible smuggling operations to nearby military or police units.
Thailand’s eastern border provinces, particularly Chanthaburi and Trat, have increasingly become focal points for law enforcement amid rising concerns over online scam syndicates and human trafficking operations based in Cambodia. This latest arrest highlights the continuing cross-border security challenges facing the country.
