A Russian man suffered a head injury after an alleged assault on Pattaya’s Walking Street in the early hours of November 20. The incident, which unfolded at around 3:36 a.m., drew attention not only for the violence involved but also for the man’s behaviour toward the person who helped him.
Emergency responders from the Sawang Boriboon Dhammastan Foundation arrived to find the 27-year-old Russian national sitting on the pavement with a visible head wound. He appeared heavily intoxicated, making it difficult for the rescue team to obtain clear information about what had happened or who was responsible for the attack.
According to Siam Chon News, the man reacted unexpectedly when approached for help, even flipping off a Thai motorcycle taxi driver who had been the one to call rescuers after discovering him staggering and then collapsing on the street. The taxi driver stated that he did not witness the assault and had only stepped in when he saw the man in distress.
After receiving first aid, the Russian man was transported to a nearby hospital for further medical evaluation. Rescue personnel advised him to file an official police report at Mueang Pattaya Police Station the following morning, where officers could review CCTV footage and attempt to identify the attackers.
The incident sparked an online debate among Thai netizens. Many criticized the Russian man for insulting the taxi driver who tried to help him, with some suggesting that his behaviour may have escalated or contributed to the confrontation earlier that night.
One Thai woman commenting online claimed the man had been attacked by a group of four to five trans women outside a bar on Walking Street. She alleged that they repeatedly struck him with their shoes after he instigated the conflict while intoxicated. However, her account has not been confirmed by authorities, and the exact motive behind the altercation remains unclear.
Pattaya’s Walking Street, known for its nightlife and high volume of tourists, has seen multiple incidents involving foreigners over the years. This latest case adds to a growing list of late-night disputes involving Russian nationals in the area. In June, four Russian teenagers reportedly clashed with Thai rappers after allegedly behaving aggressively and exposing themselves, leading to another confrontation that drew widespread attention.
Authorities are expected to review CCTV footage to determine the facts surrounding the most recent incident and identify the attackers. Police have not yet released an official statement regarding suspects but are urging the injured man to cooperate fully once sober.
The event highlights ongoing concerns about alcohol-fuelled disputes in Pattaya’s entertainment districts and the challenges faced by emergency responders who routinely assist intoxicated tourists. Local officials continue to encourage visitors to exercise caution and respect towards both residents and fellow travellers while enjoying the city’s nightlife.
