Fatal Motorcycle Crash Exposes Drug Network, Suspect Arrested After Texting Victim’s Phone

A fatal motorcycle crash in the early hours of New Year’s Day has led Banglamung police to dismantle a small drug trafficking operation, culminating in the arrest of a suspect after he unknowingly sent a revealing text message to officers examining the victim’s mobile phone.

The case began when a black Honda MSX motorcycle with Rayong registration veered off the road and crashed into roadside grass in Soi Yai Cha, Moo 5. The rider, later identified as 43-year-old Num Senanok, was found dead at the scene.

During an examination of the crash site, police discovered around 200 methamphetamine pills, locally known as yaba, along with spent bullet casings and the victim’s mobile phone scattered near the body.

While officers were waiting for relatives to come forward, a suspicious text message arrived on the victim’s phone. The sender, later identified as 32-year-old Wanich Chaemchu, also known as “Golf,” appeared to be angrily demanding the return of a motorcycle and drugs, seemingly unaware that his associate had died in the crash. Investigators believe Wanich thought the victim had disappeared with the items.

Police quickly traced the phone number and located Wanich at a residence in Moo 5, Prong Saket, in the Takhian Tia subdistrict—approximately 500 metres from the accident scene. Officers found him drinking alcohol despite the early hour.

A search of the property uncovered 400 methamphetamine pills packaged in a similar manner to those found at the crash site, as well as two homemade firearms. Background checks also revealed that Wanich was wanted under an arrest warrant issued by Pattaya Provincial Court in March 2025 on charges including attempted murder and joint possession of firearms, linked to a previous case in the Huay Yai police area.

During interrogation, Wanich admitted ownership of the seized drugs and the motorcycle involved in the fatal crash. He claimed the firearms belonged to the deceased, stating they had been used for hunting bats and left in his care.

According to police, Wanich told investigators that he and the victim had purchased 600 yaba pills in three packets for resale to lower-level dealers after drinking together on New Year’s Eve. The victim was allegedly on his way to deliver drugs to a customer when the crash occurred. When the victim failed to return, Wanich assumed he had run off with the motorcycle and remaining drugs, prompting the incriminating text message that ultimately led to his arrest.

Banglamung Police Colonel Sarawut Nuchanart confirmed that Wanich has been charged with possession of drugs with intent to distribute, illegal possession of firearms, and offences related to the outstanding arrest warrant. He remains in police custody as legal proceedings continue.
