Australian Thai Arrested in Gun Silencer Bust

BANGKOK — Cyber police have arrested a 37-year-old Australian man and a 39-year-old Thai woman in Udon Thani Province for illegal possession of gun silencers and firearms, authorities said Tuesday.

The Technology Crime Suppression Division began the investigation after identifying an online seller account named “Goodluck Airrow”, which posted photos of gun silencers disguised as “spare parts” across 14 listings on a popular marketplace app.

Officers placed a test order for an item labeled “Oil Filter 35mm Thread Connector.” Upon delivery, forensic tests confirmed the item was a military-grade gun silencer, illegally possessed under Thai law.

On March 28, police arrested Mr. Surasit, 43, a kindergarten teacher in Nakhon Sawan, who had previously ordered items from the store. Another frequent buyer, using the name “chase2023”, had made over 11 purchases, prompting police to dig deeper.

A search warrant led officers to Moo 5, Tambon Khambong, Ban Phue District in Udon Thani, where they discovered Ms. Atitaya and Mr. Adam, an Australian national. A raid on their home uncovered:

  • 3 long-barrel firearms
  • 3 silencers
  • 3,500 rounds of ammunition

Both suspects admitted to purchasing the illegal silencers from the Goodluck Airrow account. They were charged with unauthorized firearm possession and unlawful possession of military ordnance, offenses that fall under strict regulations requiring defense ministry approval.

Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwphan, Commissioner of the Technology Crime Suppression Division, confirmed that the seized silencers are classified as restricted military equipment.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not ruled out additional arrests connected to the illegal weapons trade.
