Austrian Drug Mule Collapses at Bangkok Airport

BANGKOK — A 43-year-old Austrian man was rushed to Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital after suffering convulsions and severe abdominal pain following his arrival at Don Mueang Airport. Doctors were shocked to discover 255 methamphetamine pills inside his intestines, prompting a criminal investigation.

The patient, identified only as Wolfgang, arrived at the hospital in critical condition at 1:00 AM on June 11, after airport authorities alerted emergency services. Medical staff noticed pink fluid discharging from his rectum, and a CT scan revealed several round objects lodged in his digestive tract, one of which had already been passed.

Upon further examination, hospital staff found the objects to be methamphetamine pills, marked “WY” in red—classified as a Category 1 narcotic under Thai law.

Police from Hua Mak Police Station were called to the scene. While officers collected the narcotics as evidence, Wolfgang remained unconscious and awaiting emergency surgery, as doctors suspect one or more of the drug packets ruptured inside his body, causing the life-threatening reaction.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the smuggling attempt. The case is now being handled by Hua Mak police, who will pursue legal proceedings once the suspect recovers.

The incident adds to the growing number of drug smuggling attempts involving internal concealment, a high-risk method that continues to threaten both border security and human lives.
