Bangkok Bar Guard Accused of Assaulting Drunk Woman

Police in Bangkok are investigating allegations that a security guard sexually assaulted a woman who was heavily intoxicated at a bar in the Dao Khanong area of Thon Buri district. The victim, who reported the incident on September 10, claims the assault occurred two nights earlier, on September 8, after she collapsed in the venue’s bathroom.

According to her statement to police, the woman attended the entertainment venue with two older friends. She admitted that she consumed a significant amount of alcohol and became heavily intoxicated. While in the bathroom, she collapsed and struck her head on a toilet.

Security staff rushed to assist her, with two guards placing her in a wheelchair and moving her outside the venue. Their stated intention, according to the victim, was to take her to a hospital for a medical check-up. Initially, her friends stayed with her, but they later disappeared from the scene, leaving her alone with the two guards.

The woman said the guards then took her to a sedan parked outside the venue. One guard carried her into the back seat while the other drove. She alleges that during the drive, the guard sitting beside her groped her private parts, taking advantage of her incapacitated state.

The victim stated that she was unable to resist due to intoxication. After regaining consciousness, she asked to be taken home to her residence in Soi Taksin. The guards complied, and she claims that no further assault took place beyond the groping incident.

On September 10, the woman filed a complaint at the local police station. Officers later confirmed to Channel 7 that they intend to summon the entertainment venue’s owner, as well as the two accused guards, to present themselves for questioning. So far, however, the men have not come forward, and no formal charges have been filed.

The allegations have raised concerns over safety and accountability in Bangkok’s nightlife sector, particularly in cases involving vulnerable patrons. Advocacy groups in Thailand have long called for stricter enforcement of workplace conduct for bar and nightclub staff, as well as clearer protections for intoxicated individuals who may be at risk of exploitation.

Police have said that the investigation will continue, with evidence being collected from the venue, CCTV footage, and witness testimonies. They also urged the accused men to cooperate with authorities as the inquiry proceeds.

The case underscores ongoing public debate in Thailand regarding how nightlife venues handle situations involving intoxicated customers. While bar and club security are expected to safeguard patrons, critics argue that there are not enough regulatory measures in place to prevent abuse of power.

As of now, the woman’s complaint is being treated seriously by investigators, though whether charges will be filed depends on the outcome of the questioning and evidence review. The police have stressed that the accused guards will be required to face legal scrutiny.

The incident remains under active investigation.
