Bangkok police are investigating the brutal killing of a condominium security guard who was fatally stabbed in Huai Khwang district during the early hours of Saturday, September 6.
The victim, identified as Somdet, aged between 35 and 40, was discovered near the building’s entrance with severe knife wounds to his neck and face. He was pronounced dead at the scene despite emergency response efforts.
The incident was reported at approximately 4:30 a.m. to Sutthisan Police Station. Police Lieutenant Ekkasit Meesuk led the initial response alongside Police Colonel Pronthep Chalermkiat, forensic teams, a Police General Hospital doctor, and Poh Teck Tung Foundation volunteers. Authorities documented the crime scene in detail and collected forensic evidence for analysis.
Somdet had been on duty as part of his night shift when the assault occurred. Investigators believe the attacker approached him suddenly, wielding a knife, and launched a vicious attack without warning.
Witnesses described the suspect as a man with short hair and a tattoo on his right arm. At the time of the attack, he was seen wearing a black shirt featuring a cannabis leaf on the back and jeans. Witnesses also recalled seeing him brandish the knife before repeatedly stabbing the victim.
Following the attack, the assailant fled in a black sedan. The car’s make and license plate remain unknown. Police, however, are confident that CCTV footage from the condominium and surrounding roads will provide leads in tracing the suspect’s movements and identifying the getaway vehicle.
Authorities have prioritized the case, citing both the brutality of the killing and the public location where it occurred. Investigators are now reviewing video evidence and questioning eyewitnesses. “We are working to gather all available evidence and bring the perpetrator to justice,” police officials confirmed in an early statement.
Residents in the Huai Khwang area have expressed shock and concern over the attack, as it highlights vulnerabilities faced by security personnel tasked with safeguarding condominium complexes. Security guards often work alone through the night, leaving them particularly vulnerable to sudden violence.
This latest murder follows other recent cases involving violent assaults against guards in Bangkok. In a separate incident, five suspects are currently under investigation after a deadly robbery at Khlong Toei Port, where a gang killed a guard while stealing electronic cigarettes from a shipping container.
The back-to-back tragedies have fueled public calls for stronger safety measures to protect security staff working in isolated or high-risk environments.
For now, police remain focused on tracking the Huai Khwang suspect, with CCTV footage expected to play a key role in the investigation. Officers are urging anyone with information to come forward as the manhunt continues.
