Body of 65-Year-Old Man Found Floating Naked

Unclothed Body Found Floating Near Koh Larn

A grim discovery was made off the coast of Koh Larn as police recovered the body of a 65-year-old man found floating face-down and unclothed in the sea. The case is now under active investigation to determine the cause of death and any possible foul play.

Discovery at Sea

Police Lieutenant Rungreang Kaewphiphop, Deputy Inspector of Pattaya City Police Station, received the report at approximately 10:30 AM, prompting the dispatch of a water rescue team and Speedboat 1013 to the scene near Whale Cape, about 300 meters from the shore of Koh Larn.

At the scene, responders discovered the body of an unclothed male, floating face-down in the water. Initial inspection found no visible signs of trauma or assault. The body was retrieved and transported to Pattaya shore, then sent to Pattaya Hospital for preservation ahead of a detailed forensic examination.

Identity and Background

The deceased was later identified as Mr. Piyapong Piyakunchanan, aged 65, a resident of Koh Larn. Authorities confirmed that Mr. Piyapong lived locally, but it remains unclear how or why he ended up in the sea without clothing.

Ongoing Investigation

Although there were no immediate signs of foul play, the unusual circumstances of the discovery — including the lack of clothing and absence of witnesses — have prompted a deeper inquiry. Police are currently:

  • Interviewing potential witnesses on the island
  • Reviewing CCTV footage from coastal areas
  • Examining Mr. Piyapong’s recent activity and contacts

The body has been sent to the Police General Hospital’s Institute of Forensic Medicine in Bangkok for an autopsy to determine the official cause of death, which will guide further steps in the investigation.

Authorities Urge Caution

Police have not ruled out any possible scenarios — including accidental drowning, suicide, or a medical emergency — but stress that the lack of initial injuries does not preclude deeper trauma or intoxication.

Local residents and tourists are urged to report any suspicious activity or relevant information that could assist with the investigation.
