A California man is grieving after discovering his wife of 35 years fatally stabbed in their longtime home. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Noel Trevino, was later arrested after a dramatic police pursuit.
National City police reported that 71-year-old Wanda Taylor was found dead on Wednesday afternoon after her husband, Ernest Taylor, returned from a painting job. Upon entering the house, he made the horrifying discovery: his wife lying in a pool of blood while a stranger stood over her.
“He was right there,” Ernest told KNSD, recalling how Trevino was “prancing up” and mumbling incoherently. Ernest quickly left the home and dialed 911. Trevino then leapt from a second-story window in an attempt to flee but was tracked down and apprehended minutes later using K-9 units and less-lethal bean bags.
According to investigators, security footage revealed that Trevino had been on the property as early as 10:30 a.m. that day. Wanda had left around that time to take her dog to a veterinary appointment, and police believe Trevino posed as a solicitor with a clipboard to approach the house.
Trevino has no known connection to the Taylors. He is being held without bond on charges of murder, burglary, and resisting an officer. His arraignment was postponed due to medical issues and rescheduled for August 25.
On Friday, Ernest attended court with close friends for support. “I was hesitant of coming today,” he said, “but when I saw my friends, I was glad I was here.”
