Cop Honored for Drug Bust Arrested in Mukdahan

Breaking Bad in Mukdahan: Celebrated Cop-Turned-Dealer Arrested

A shocking scandal has rocked Mukdahan province after a police officer recently celebrated for his success in combating drug dealers was arrested for trafficking methamphetamine. The case, likened to a real-life Breaking Bad scenario, has raised questions about corruption within the force.

On Thursday night, Border Patrol police launched a sting operation in Muang district following a tip-off about a major narcotics transaction. Officers arrested Kriangsak Pikulsri, 47, in possession of a massive cache of methamphetamine pills—reportedly up to 30,000 tablets.

During interrogation, Kriangsak revealed that his supply came from none other than Police Lieutenant Torajit Kaengrang, 57, a senior officer stationed at Don Tan police station. According to Kriangsak, Torajit was not only the source of the drugs but was also expecting a cut from the sales.

Acting swiftly, investigators extended the operation to catch Torajit red-handed. He was lured into traveling to Kriangsak’s home to collect his share of the profits. As soon as the exchange of cash took place, authorities moved in, arresting the officer. Alongside the suspects, police seized 30,000 meth pills, a 9mm handgun, and 13 bullets.

The revelation has stunned many, as Pol Lt Torajit had only recently received a certificate of honor in July for his supposed success in suppressing narcotics trafficking. His arrest just weeks later for being on the opposite side of the law has drawn comparisons to the plot twists of crime dramas.

The case underscores the difficulties faced by Thai authorities in combating the drug trade. While frontline officers are often praised for their work, cases of corruption reveal the deep entanglement of law enforcement with narcotics networks. Methamphetamine—locally known as yaba—remains a persistent problem in Thailand, flooding in from neighboring regions and fueling widespread addiction.

Authorities have vowed to pursue the case vigorously, signaling that no officer, no matter their rank or past accolades, is above the law. Both Kriangsak and Torajit remain in custody as investigations continue, with further charges expected.

The scandal serves as a reminder that the battle against narcotics is not only waged against traffickers but also against the corruption that undermines trust in law enforcement.
