Disabled British Man Robbed by Friends in Pattaya

A disabled British man has fallen victim to a shocking betrayal in Pattaya, Thailand, after being robbed by three individuals he had befriended on the beach. The incident underscores ongoing concerns about tourist safety in one of Thailand’s most popular coastal cities.

Police in Pattaya launched an investigation after receiving a complaint from the 52-year-old British man, who reported that his newfound companions stole his cash and personal belongings. The victim, whose identity has been withheld for privacy, has a physical disability requiring the use of mobility aids, making the crime particularly distressing.

According to police reports, the British man was approached by three Thai individuals while relaxing on Pattaya Beach earlier this week. The group quickly struck up a conversation, and the man, feeling comfortable in their company, spent several hours socializing with them. They later suggested moving to a quieter spot, and the victim agreed, believing he was in safe company.

However, once they were away from the crowded beach area, the three suspects allegedly turned on him. Police said the trio overpowered the man and took his cash, mobile phone, and other valuable items. Despite his disability, the victim attempted to resist but was unable to defend himself effectively.

After the attack, the suspects fled the scene, leaving the British tourist stranded and shaken. Passersby eventually assisted him and called the local authorities, who responded swiftly to the incident. Police have since launched a manhunt for the three suspects, reviewing CCTV footage in the surrounding area to track their movements.

Investigators believe the suspects deliberately targeted the victim due to his vulnerable condition and may be part of a larger group preying on tourists in the area. Police have urged tourists to exercise caution when befriending strangers, even in seemingly friendly and social settings like Pattaya Beach.

“This was a cruel act that took advantage of a tourist’s trust and vulnerability,” said a spokesperson for the Pattaya Police. “We are committed to identifying and arresting the individuals responsible for this crime.”

Local authorities are also working with the British Embassy to provide assistance to the victim, who has expressed his determination not to let the incident ruin his view of Thailand. He reportedly remains in Pattaya while cooperating with police investigations.

Incidents like these have raised ongoing concerns about tourist safety in Pattaya, a city famed for its beaches and nightlife but sometimes marred by reports of thefts, scams, and other crimes targeting foreign visitors. Police have vowed to increase patrols in high-traffic tourist areas and step up efforts to prevent similar crimes.

Officials continue to advise travelers to remain vigilant, avoid secluded places with strangers, and report suspicious behavior immediately. As investigations continue, police have appealed for anyone with information about the suspects to come forward.
