Driver Arrested for Stealing Employer’s Credit Cards Spending Over 1 Million Baht

Bangkok – A 37-year-old man has been arrested for stealing and using his employer’s credit cards, racking up over 1 million baht (approx. US$30,500) in fraudulent charges. The arrest occurred in the car park of Thong Lo Police Station after an investigation linked the suspect to multiple unauthorised transactions.

The victim, a resident of a luxury condominium on Sukhumvit Soi 49, filed a complaint on May 29, reporting that several of his bank credit cards had been used without his knowledge. Police traced the transactions and identified the suspect as Akkhapol, the victim’s personal driver.

Planned Arrest and Discovery of Illegal Firearm

Police learned that Akkhapol would be visiting Thong Lo Police Station and set up an operation to apprehend him. At approximately 4:05 p.m. on June 6, officers spotted a black Honda Civic entering the station’s car park. Upon approaching and identifying themselves, officers conducted a search of the vehicle and suspect.

The search uncovered three stolen credit cards and the victim’s ID card inside Akkhapol’s wallet. Additionally, officers found a modified KUZEY-GN19 blank gun loaded with 12 bullets inside a black MC JEANS shoulder bag on the front passenger seat.

Confession and Charges

Akkhapol confessed to using the stolen credit cards, claiming that he had impersonated the victim’s son at various retail outlets to verify the transactions. He also admitted to purchasing the illegal firearm via Facebook for 15,000 baht (approx. US$457) a year earlier, though he could not recall the identity of the seller.

When asked about the items he had bought with the stolen cards, Akkhapol stated they had already been sold and he couldn’t remember where, due to the large number of transactions.

Legal Action Underway

Akkhapol is facing multiple charges including:

  • Theft in a dwelling
  • Unauthorised use of an electronic card
  • Possession of a firearm without a license
  • Other related offences

All evidence was seized and handed over to investigators at Thong Lo Police Station for further legal proceedings
