BANGKOK : A tragic domestic dispute ended in the fatal stabbing of a 77-year-old woman in Bangkok’s Bang Khun Si subdistrict, reportedly at the hands of her 69-year-old husband.
Police Lieutenant Virat Menthakul of Bang Khun Non Police Station received a distress call around 4 p.m. and responded alongside forensic doctors from Siriraj Hospital, crime scene investigators, and senior officers including Police Colonel Uthen Tangpitaksamo.
The scene—a two-storey townhouse on Charan Sanitwong 37—revealed the elderly woman lying in front of a bathroom, dressed in black floral pyjamas, with a kitchen knife approximately one foot long embedded in her chest. Authorities noted no signs of struggle inside the home. The husband was present at the scene and did not resist arrest.
According to police, the suspect confessed to the stabbing, stating that the argument began after his wife slipped in the bathroom. He said his wife suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and osteoporosis, which caused mobility issues and frequent mood swings. Frustration mounted during the quarrel, and in a moment of rage, he allegedly grabbed a knife and fatally stabbed her. He immediately contacted police after realizing the gravity of his actions.
The victim’s body has been sent for autopsy, and the suspect remains in custody as police prepare to file formal charges.
Related Case in Phetchabun:
In a separate domestic violence case, a 39-year-old man has been arrested for the brutal murder of his ex-wife in Lom Sak district, Phetchabun province.
The incident occurred on April 12 in Pak Chong subdistrict, where 43-year-old Somkit was found dead inside her residence, suffering from fatal neck wounds. Police arrested the suspect, identified as her former husband, Sombat, who reportedly confessed to the murder and admitted to consuming five methamphetamine pills prior to committing the crime.
Both incidents have raised fresh concerns over domestic violence and mental health issues among the elderly in Thailand.
