Ex-Arsenal Star Partey on Bail in Rape Case
Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail after appearing in a London court charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
The 32-year-old, currently a free agent after his Arsenal contract ended in June, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. The alleged offenses took place between 2021 and 2022 and involve three women.
As part of his bail conditions, Partey must not contact the women involved and must notify police of any permanent address changes or international travel.
Partey is reportedly set to join Spanish club Villarreal. “I understand he’s no longer employed in this country and playing in Spain now,” chief magistrate Paul Goldspring told the court.
Wearing a dark zip-up sweater and carrying a suit jacket, Partey stood in the dock with his arms behind his back. His lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, has previously stated he denies all charges and welcomes the opportunity to clear his name.
The investigation began in February 2022 when police received an initial report of rape. Partey was formally charged on July 4, days after leaving Arsenal.
He is scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey on September 2.
