A Northampton community has been left devastated following the death of 43-year-old Kimberley Thompson, a beloved mother-of-two described by friends as “selfless” and “caring.”
Kimberley was found dead on August 9 at a property in Pinewood Road. Police later charged her ex-husband, Michael Thompson, 55, with one count of rape and one count of murder. He is due to appear before Northampton Magistrates’ Court today.
Friends and community members have spoken of their heartbreak at the tragic loss. Local youth mentor Quinton Green, a longtime schoolfriend, described Kimberley as a “popular, selfless and caring mother of two” with a passion for basketball.
“The community of Northampton are shocked, devastated and heartbroken over the tragic loss of Kimberley,” he said. “She touched so many hearts with her captivating personality and passion. Kim is a cherished daughter, a beautiful sister, a loving mother, and a devoted friend.”
Tributes poured in across social media, with one schoolfriend recalling Kimberley as “a best childhood friend” and vowing to treasure memories of their time together. Others remembered her as kind, full of energy, and devoted to her children.
Police initially arrested a man on suspicion of murder three days after Kimberley’s body was discovered. He was later released on bail before Michael Thompson was formally charged with her rape and murder.
Detectives continue their investigation, while Kimberley’s family and friends are left grappling with the sudden and violent loss.
The case has sparked grief throughout Northampton, where residents say Kimberley’s warmth and generosity will not be forgotten.
