Father and Son Arrested for Woman’s Murder in Songkhla
Songkhla, Thailand — A Thai man and his son were arrested in connection with the brutal murder of a 52-year-old woman at a rubber plantation in the Saba Yoi district of Songkhla province.
The victim, Prathum, originally from the southern province, was found dead around 1 a.m. on June 8 with two deep head wounds. An autopsy was carried out at Songklanagarind Hospital before her body was released for funeral rites.
The murder came to light after Prathum’s son, Pornthep, discovered her body in the plantation. He recounted to Channel 7 that his mother had entered the area with her boyfriend, 51-year-old Boonhai, and her 26-year-old stepson, Chaiyaphruek. Moments later, Pornthep followed on a motorcycle after sharpening a knife for his mother. Upon arrival, he was met with strange behavior from the two men, who warned him to leave.
Initially complying, Pornthep’s worry for his mother prompted him to return. By then, both men had vanished, leaving behind a horrific scene—his mother’s lifeless body was found lying near a rubber tree, with a knife and agricultural tools nearby.
Pornthep also revealed that his mother had recently mentioned ongoing conflicts with Boonhai, suggesting a possible motive for the killing. Though no specific details were disclosed, the relationship between Prathum and Boonhai reportedly spanned three years.
Boonhai, who had been living in Songkhla for over 15 years, had only recently been joined by his son. Based on physical evidence at the scene and CCTV footage showing the suspects fleeing on a green Kawasaki motorcycle, Saba Yoi Police issued arrest warrants for both men on charges of intentional murder.
A well-known local rescue volunteer, ใหญ่ กู้ชีพ (Yai Rescue), confirmed via Facebook that the suspects were captured and are currently being interrogated by police. As of now, further details regarding their statements or the motive have not been released.
Authorities continue to investigate the case and are expected to provide more information following the interrogation.
