LOEI – Father Claims Self-Defense After Fatally Shooting Drug-Addicted Son
A tragic incident unfolded in Chiang Khan district, Loei province, where a father fatally shot his 25-year-old son, claiming it was an act of self-defense against a drug-fueled attack.
Chiang Khan police confirmed that they received a report at around 5:40 p.m. on May 25 regarding a shooting in Pak Tom subdistrict. Emergency services and law enforcement rushed to the scene, where they discovered the body of the young man had already been moved by concerned neighbors to a bench in front of his family’s home, located near a rubber plantation.
A preliminary medical examination revealed the victim had suffered a single gunshot wound to the left chest, and police estimate he died one to two hours before authorities arrived.
The victim’s mother recounted that her son had briefly left home on his motorcycle that afternoon. Shortly after returning, she heard him cry out and rushed outside to find him collapsed from a gunshot wound. With help from nearby rubber plantation workers, she moved the body roughly one kilometer to the house before contacting authorities.
The father later admitted to shooting his son, stating the young man had become aggressive and threatening while under the influence of drugs, allegedly attacking him with a weapon. The father claimed he acted to protect himself.
Police have launched a full investigation to verify the self-defense claim and are awaiting autopsy results and forensic analysis. Legal proceedings will follow based on the outcome of the inquiry.
