FONTANA, CALIFORNIA — A rising fitness influencer and mother of seven, Gloria Zamora, 40, was fatally shot outside a Fontana sushi restaurant on Saturday, allegedly by her estranged husband, Thomas Alberto Tamayo Lizarraga, 45, in a domestic violence-fueled double murder.
Zamora had been on a date with Hector Garduno, 43, when the shooting occurred in the parking lot of a restaurant on Summit Avenue. Garduno, a father of four, was also killed.
Fontana Police say Lizarraga ambushed the couple, first opening fire on Garduno before shooting Zamora. The deadly attack was witnessed by off-duty law enforcement officers nearby.
An off-duty San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputy responded to the sound of gunfire. Confronting Lizarraga at the scene, the deputy fatally shot him, stopping the attack before any others were harmed.
Zamora and Garduno were rushed to a hospital but later succumbed to their injuries.
Police Officer Steve Reed confirmed to local ABC affiliate KABC that Zamora had been in the process of divorcing Lizarraga. In recent weeks, Zamora had publicly discussed the toxic dynamics of her relationship on a June 16 episode of the Herizon podcast.
In the episode, Zamora revealed how her growing success as an influencer, with nearly 150,000 followers on Instagram, had strained her second marriage. “Instead of [him] being supportive, [he’s] over here trying to, like, bring me down,” she said, describing verbal insults and emotional tension.
The Herizon podcast later posted a clip from the interview with the caption: “With husbands like these, who needs enemies?”
Authorities are treating the case as a domestic violence double homicide. The incident also raises renewed concerns about relationship-driven gun violence, particularly involving estranged spouses.
