Indian Tourist Robbed at Pattaya Beach
In the early hours of September 20, a robbery along Pattaya Beach left an Indian tourist shaken after a group of transgender individuals allegedly stole his gold necklace, valued at over 100,000 baht (approximately US$3,000). The incident has sparked a swift police response as officers intensify efforts to track down the suspects through CCTV surveillance and witness accounts.
At around 2:36 a.m., Pattaya City Police received a report of the theft. Deputy Inspector of Investigations, Lt. Manasak Phonyiam, was notified and promptly relayed the details to his superior, Police Colonel Anek Sarathongyoo, chief of Pattaya City Police Station. Within minutes, Lt. Manasak and an investigative team arrived at the scene to gather evidence and speak with the victim.
The victim, identified as 24-year-old Devda, appeared visibly upset when officers arrived. According to his statement, he and a fellow Indian friend had been walking along the beachfront when they were approached by a group of transgender individuals. The group attempted to engage them by offering companionship services, while simultaneously initiating physical contact.
Devda recalled that the individuals hugged and touched him in an overly familiar manner, despite his refusals. He managed to break free from the interaction, and the group scattered in several directions. Feeling uneasy, he quickly checked his belongings and discovered his gold necklace, weighing between 25 and 30 grams, was missing. By the time he realized the theft, the suspects had already fled.
The necklace, a valuable item both monetarily and sentimentally, is estimated to be worth more than 100,000 baht, a significant loss for the young tourist. The robbery occurred in a popular nightlife and tourist zone, raising concerns about safety for international visitors in Pattaya.
Lt. Manasak conducted a thorough interview with Devda at the scene, gathering as many details as possible about the suspects and the encounter. The police team has since begun reviewing nearby CCTV footage to identify the individuals involved. Authorities confirmed that all legal measures are being pursued to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Tourist thefts, particularly involving distraction tactics, are not uncommon in Pattaya, a city known for its bustling nightlife and heavy tourist traffic.
