Indian Women Arrested in 32.5 Million Thailand Weed Smuggling

Three Indian Women Caught Smuggling Potent Thai Weed Worth ₹85 Million at Mumbai Airport

Mumbai, India — A supposed free holiday to Thailand turned into a drug bust nightmare for three Indian women, who were arrested at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on June 4 for smuggling nearly 9 kilograms of high-grade hydroponic marijuana from Bangkok.

The women—Priyanka Kumar (44) from Delhi, Ishika Kaltari (19) from Bhopal, and Asma Bano Rajab (early 40s) from Gujarat—were intercepted after customs officers noticed their nervous behavior and searched their luggage, uncovering the stash worth an estimated ₹85 million (32.4 million baht).

Authorities said:

  • Priyanka was carrying 3.24 kg
  • Ishika had 3.52 kg
  • Asma concealed 1.86 kg in her bags

Customs officials confirmed that the trio admitted knowing the illegality of their actions, but were lured with promises of a free trip to Bangkok and modest cash rewards—Asma, a former salon worker, was allegedly offered just 6,000 baht.

Evidence points to a larger international smuggling network, possibly orchestrated by a Brazil-based syndicate, with one of the suspects in possession of contact details for a Brazilian woman believed to be the marijuana supplier.

The women were arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act for trafficking in commercial quantities. Further investigations are ongoing to uncover the full scope of the operation.
