PHNOM PENH — Cambodian police have arrested a 31-year-old man who beheaded his 6-year-old nephew in Kok Thom village, located in Bosbov commune, Preah Netr Preah district, Banteay Meanchey province.
The incident occurred on the evening of June 16 at approximately 5:30 p.m., according to local police. Authorities responded quickly after receiving emergency calls from local residents and apprehended the suspect without resistance.
Police identified the suspect as Khim Kimchhak, a local resident. He allegedly attacked his young nephew in a fit of rage, using a machete to sever the boy’s head after claiming the child had “insulted” him.
Deputy district police chief Ream Mov confirmed the arrest, stating:
“Our officers were able to arrest the suspect immediately that night, shortly after the incident. He did not attempt to flee.”
The suspect has been transferred to the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Police Headquarters for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Authorities have not released further details about the motive or the mental health status of the suspect. Police declined to comment further on the nature of the insult or the context surrounding the crime.
