A 34-year-old man has been arrested after a man and woman were found dead in a home in Melbourne’s south-east, in what police are calling a “targeted attack.”
Police discovered the bodies at a property in Adrienne Crescent, Mount Waverley, around 10 pm last night while conducting a welfare check following reports of yelling inside the home. The victims have not yet been formally identified.
Following the discovery, police — including the canine squad — launched a major manhunt through the surrounding streets. At around 1:40 am, officers located and arrested the suspect at Westall train station. He was walking with two dogs at the time.
Detective Inspector Dean Thomas from Victoria Police confirmed that the suspect was known to the address and that the incident appeared to be isolated.
“The message here is that it appears to be a targeted attack. Our suspect is known to the address,” Thomas said.
“We are not looking for anybody else. It appears to be isolated.”
Police believe the man may be of no fixed address. Detectives from the Homicide Squad are now working alongside local officers to piece together the events leading to the deaths.
Graffiti was found spray-painted on several exterior walls of the property, with phrases including “karma” and “enough is enough.” Aerial footage captured by the 9News helicopter showed extensive graffiti on multiple sides of the home.
“Homicide Squad detectives will work to determine if the graffiti is relevant to the murder investigation,” police said in a statement to 9News.
Authorities have urged anyone with information, CCTV, or mobile phone footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a confidential online report.
The investigation remains ongoing, with forensic teams expected to conduct detailed examinations of the property throughout the day. Police have yet to release the victims’ names, pending formal identification and notification of next of kin.
