Man Arrested for Killing Wife in Yasothon Over Jealousy

Yasothon, Thailand – A man has been arrested after allegedly killing his wife in a brutal attack fueled by jealousy and untreated mental illness, local police reported.

Officers responded Monday morning to a report of a woman’s body found floating in a pond behind Ban Nam Pho Fresh Market in Ded subdistrict, Muang district. The victim, 51-year-old Mrs. Puangpetch, was discovered face-up in shallow water wearing a black tank top and blue shorts.

An initial autopsy revealed severe head trauma consistent with blunt force, as well as a bleeding wound on her left shin. Authorities estimate she had been dead for at least five hours before being found.

Mrs. Puangpetch ran a grocery shop near the market and lived nearby with her husband, Mr. Sawean, and their son. Neighbors and relatives reported frequent arguments between the couple.

Police investigation, supported by CCTV footage, identified Mr. Sawean as the attacker. He was arrested and taken to the scene for a crime reconstruction, where the wooden baton used in the assault was recovered.

During questioning, Mr. Sawean admitted to paranoia and suspicions about his wife’s fidelity. Authorities also learned he suffered from depression and had stopped taking his prescribed medication two months prior.

Police continue to investigate the case.
