Man Arrested for Selling Drugs to Tourists on Koh Pha Ngan

KOH PHA NGAN, Thailand — A 22-year-old Thai man has been arrested for allegedly selling drugs to tourists attending beach parties on the island of Koh Pha Ngan, a popular destination known for its vibrant nightlife and Full Moon parties.

The arrest occurred at 4pm on June 24, when officers from Tourism Police Section 5, Division 2, led by Police Lieutenant Vinij Boonchit, detained Sarayuth (surname withheld) near Siam Residence in Moo 4, Koh Pha Ngan subdistrict, Surat Thani province.

Police say Sarayuth was caught with 73.82 grammes of crystal methamphetamine and 150 methamphetamine pills. He had reportedly been riding a black Honda PCX motorcycle (license plate 1กฮ 7446, Surat Thani) and persistently offering drugs to foreign tourists at beach venues and parties.

Authorities were alerted by local residents and concerned tourists who had noticed a young Thai man persistently approaching foreigners with drug offers. His method allegedly involved following tourists on his motorcycle and repeatedly pressuring them to buy narcotics.

During questioning, Sarayuth confessed that he had bought the drugs for 10,000 baht (approximately US$305) from another unidentified Thai individual. In a startlingly candid statement, he told police,

“Dealing drugs is just a way of life for men,” and reportedly smiled at the end of his comment.

He now faces charges of possession of a category 1 narcotic with intent to distribute, which includes both methamphetamine pills and crystal meth. Sarayuth has been transferred to Koh Pha Ngan Police Station for further legal proceedings.

The case underscores ongoing concerns about drug-related crime targeting tourists on popular Thai islands, particularly during large party events. Police have urged visitors to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
