Man Found Dead With Knife in Chest in Phuket Room

PHUKET — Police in Phuket are investigating two separate deaths after the discovery of a man found stabbed in his rented room in Patong and a decomposed body in an abandoned building in Kathu district.

On June 28, Patong Police were called to a rented room on Soi Jintana around 10:45 a.m. following reports of a possible homicide. Police Lieutenant Colonel Chananarong Prakongkeo, an investigation officer with Patong Police Station, arrived at the scene along with rescue workers from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation.

Inside the room, officers discovered the body of a man lying on his back with his arms outstretched on the floor. He was dressed in green shorts and surrounded by a significant amount of dried blood. Police found a knife embedded in the victim’s chest.

The deceased was identified as Tonkla, a 39-year-old man originally from Sisaket province in northeast Thailand. Based on the state of the body, investigators believe he had been dead for at least three days prior to the discovery.

A forensic team from Vachira Phuket Hospital was called in to examine the scene. Tonkla’s body was later transported to the hospital for a post-mortem examination to help determine the exact cause and time of death. Police say investigations into the circumstances of the killing are ongoing, and they have not yet revealed whether any suspects have been identified.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, Phuket police continue to investigate the discovery of a decomposed body in Kathu district.

On April 21, officers were alerted around 5:40 p.m. to an abandoned building in Kathu. Police, a forensic doctor from Vachira Phuket Hospital, and rescue workers from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation responded to the scene.

They found the remains of a Thai man, estimated to be about 40 years old. His body was significantly decomposed, making identification difficult. Investigators noted a distinctive Hanuman tattoo on the man’s back, which may aid in identifying him.

Locals told police the man was possibly homeless and had been staying in the disused building for approximately two months. Based on the condition of the remains, officials believe he had been dead for roughly a week before being discovered.

Police found no immediate signs of foul play or a struggle at the scene. However, authorities are awaiting the results of a forensic examination to confirm the cause of death.

Phuket police have urged anyone who may have information about either incident to come forward to assist with the investigations.
