Mother fights for life as boyfriend dies in tragic Bali scooter crash

An Australian man has been killed and his partner left critically injured following a devastating scooter collision in Bali.

Bryce Alexander Black and Samantha Baillie, both 33 and from the New South Wales Central Coast, were riding a scooter when they were struck head-on by a vehicle in North Kuta at about 4.30am on Sunday. According to Bali Legals, Mr Black — a father of one — died at the scene on Petitenget Street.

Ms Baillie, a mother of two, was rushed to hospital in a life-threatening condition. A GoFundMe page has been launched by her friend Savannah-Leigh Homer, who said the family is enduring “the most devastating time imaginable.”

Ms Homer said Ms Baillie suffered severe injuries, including a fractured skull with bleeding on the brain, multiple broken fingers with serious hand damage, pelvic injuries and extensive trauma to her feet.

“She is badly injured and facing a long and uncertain recovery,” she said.

The tragedy struck just a day after Ms Baillie arrived in Bali for her first overseas trip. “It was meant to be a happy milestone — her first time leaving the country after starting a new chapter of her life,” Ms Homer said.

Ms Baillie’s mother and Ms Homer have since flown to Bali to support her, manage mounting hospital costs and arrange her transfer back to Australia. Ms Homer said $6,000 had already been paid for initial treatment, with a further bill of $52,000 issued and more expenses expected.

“The financial burden is overwhelming,” she said.

By Friday night, the fundraising campaign had raised more than $51,000.

Tributes have poured in on social media for Mr Black, with friends and loved ones expressing shock and grief. “I still can’t believe it’s happened to you,” one post read. Another said: “Brother, rest in peace,” while others sent love and support to both families.

Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed it is providing consular assistance. “We send our deepest condolences to the families at this difficult time,” a spokesperson said.
