A long-running dispute between neighbours in Pattaya escalated into violence when a woman allegedly stabbed her neighbour following false claims that had disrupted her relationship. The incident occurred on Sunday, September 23, at a rented accommodation in Soi Pattaya 5.
Rescuers from the Sawang Boriboon Dhammastan Foundation responded after 45-year-old Thongsuk Taengrueang arrived at their centre with a stab wound. She was described as being in critical condition and was stabilised before being transferred to Pattaya Bhattamakun Hospital for further treatment.
According to her initial statement to rescue workers, the attacker was a neighbour identified as 35-year-old Chanpen Phuttachan, who lived in the room next door. Thongsuk said the two had ongoing disagreements and that Chanpen had allegedly damaged her glass window the previous night.
Police from Mueang Pattaya Police Station arrived at the accommodation shortly afterward. When officers reached the scene, they found local residents detaining Chanpen. A search of her room reportedly uncovered a folding knife hidden under a dressing table, which officers believe may have been used in the assault.
During questioning, Chanpen explained that the conflict stemmed from repeated false claims made by Thongsuk. She said Thongsuk had been telling others that the two were involved in a sexual relationship. Chanpen stated these claims caused frequent arguments between her and her girlfriend, 38-year-old Som, who is also related to the victim.
Chanpen further alleged that Thongsuk often disturbed the couple when under the influence of cannabis and regularly created tension in the household. She admitted to losing her temper during the confrontation and acknowledged attacking her neighbour out of anger.
Som’s sister supported Chanpen’s account, telling officers that Thongsuk had caused multiple disputes between the couple over time. She said the false claims had been particularly damaging, contributing to repeated arguments and emotional strain.
Police collected statements from all parties and secured evidence at the scene. Officers say the suspect will face charges related to the assault, with further legal action depending on the victim’s medical progress and the results of the investigation.
The incident has drawn attention among local residents, who said tensions between the two neighbours had been building for some time. Community members assisted police in detaining the suspect before officers arrived, helping prevent the situation from escalating further.
Authorities have urged residents to report conflicts before they grow into violence, noting that long-standing disputes can often be resolved or mediated with early intervention from officials or community leaders.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officers are expected to review CCTV footage, statements, and physical evidence to determine the full circumstances surrounding the stabbing. Further updates will be provided once police finalise the case details.
