Authorities in Phuket are investigating the mysterious death of a young woman found lifeless in her hotel room, with autopsy results expected to shed light on the case.
Cherng Talay Police reported that they were alerted to the discovery on Sunday afternoon, September 15, around 4:55 p.m. Officers arrived at the resort complex with forensic specialists and medical staff from Vachira Phuket Hospital.
The victim was identified as 26-year-old Kanyarat Wiriyang from Loei province in northeastern Thailand. She was discovered lying on the floor at the foot of her bed. Police confirmed there were no visible injuries, no signs of a struggle, and no evidence that her personal belongings had been disturbed.
Doctors at the scene estimated that Kanyarat had been dead for approximately 12 hours before her body was found. Her remains were transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital for a full post-mortem examination, which will determine the exact cause of death. The case has been formally logged as Autopsy Case No. 12/2025.
Colonel Ekkarat Phlaiduang, Chief of Cherng Talay Police, stated that investigators are treating the matter with caution while they await medical results. “We are awaiting the results of the medical examination before determining the next steps,” he explained.
Although police have not found evidence of foul play, they are continuing to gather information to piece together Kanyarat’s final hours. Investigators are expected to review CCTV footage from the resort and interview staff and guests who may have interacted with her before her death.
The unexplained death has unsettled both hotel staff and visitors. Several guests expressed shock at the discovery, saying the incident has raised concerns about safety and security at the resort. Staff members, while cooperating fully with the investigation, also admitted they were shaken by the tragedy.
At this stage, investigators have not identified any criminal activity linked to the case. The absence of physical trauma or forced entry suggests that the cause may be medical or toxicological, though authorities emphasize that no conclusions will be drawn until forensic findings are available.
The death of a young tourist or visitor in Phuket often attracts significant attention, given the island’s status as one of Thailand’s most popular destinations for both domestic and international travelers. While accidents and natural causes are not uncommon, unexplained deaths often lead to heightened scrutiny from the public and media.
Medical examiners at Vachira Phuket Hospital are conducting a full post-mortem analysis, including toxicology tests, to determine whether underlying health conditions, substance use, or other factors may have contributed to Kanyarat’s sudden passing. Results are expected in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, police have reassured the public that they are following all standard procedures. They emphasized that at present, there is no indication of an ongoing threat to other guests or the wider community.
The case remains under active investigation, and police say updates will be provided once autopsy findings are released. Until then, the cause of death remains officially undetermined.
For now, the death of Kanyarat Wiriyang stands as a tragic and unsettling mystery. Friends and family are awaiting answers, while the Phuket authorities work to uncover the truth behind her final hours.
Her passing serves as a somber reminder that even in a resort setting known for its beauty and relaxation, sudden and unexplained tragedies can occur, leaving lingering questions for loved ones and investigators alike.
