A Thai woman in Phuket has raised public concern after accusing a foreign man, believed to be a British national, of stealing her mobile phone and attempting to take her car in Thalang district on August 18.
The victim, Mewadi Dokmai, shared her story on Facebook and through local media to warn others about the man. She said the incident occurred outside her Candlelit Workshop in Choeng Thale. According to her, the suspect suddenly appeared, tried to engage her in conversation, and then attempted to harass her. When she resisted, he allegedly opened her car, tried to drive it away, and took her mobile phone.
To back her account, Mewadi posted a copy of her police complaint from Choeng Thale Police Station. She noted that, while filing the report, she encountered another victim who said the same man had tried to steal a motorcycle. That motorcycle owner later caught the foreigner and handed him over to police.
Mewadi confirmed the suspect is now in custody but voiced concerns about what might happen if he is released. “I worry he will come back to harm me, my customers, or try to steal again,” she wrote.
She emphasized her warning in both Thai and English, urging anyone who recognizes the man or knows his relatives to intervene. In her post, she described him as “causing trouble and disturbing others,” and urged the community to stay alert.
Other locals also commented, with one man recalling a previous encounter. He said the suspect, shirtless and barefoot at the time, claimed to be from the UK and sounded convincing because of his accent.
Police have not yet clarified how they will proceed with the case. For now, Mewadi and others in the community remain wary, fearing the suspect’s release could pose ongoing risks.
The case has drawn attention in Phuket, where residents are increasingly using social media to warn one another about potential dangers. For Mewadi, the goal is not only justice but also community safety, ensuring others do not become victims of the same man.
