Russian Man Assaults Traffic Officer in Vietnam’s Nha Trang Following Collision
Authorities in Nha Trang, Vietnam, are investigating a troubling incident involving a Russian national who allegedly assaulted a traffic police officer following a traffic collision. The attack, which left the officer injured, occurred on Thursday near the intersection of Trần Phú and Tuệ Tĩnh streets in Nha Trang Ward.
According to the Traffic Police Division, the officer was dispatched to the scene to mediate a dispute stemming from a road collision involving a motorbike driven by the foreigner—who reportedly showed signs of intoxication—and another vehicle. A heated argument was underway when police arrived.
During the interaction, the Russian man demanded the return of his motorbike and attempted to leave the scene. When officers refused, he suddenly lashed out and punched one of the officers in the mouth, causing visible injury and facial bleeding. The officer’s condition is reported to be stable, with no life-threatening injuries.
Authorities say the man was immediately restrained by local police and taken into custody for questioning. His identity has not yet been made public.
The Traffic Police Division has filed an official report with the Khánh Hòa Provincial Police, and legal case files are being prepared as the investigation continues. The incident is expected to lead to formal charges in accordance with Vietnamese law.
This case has drawn public attention as an example of growing concerns over foreign behavior and respect for local law enforcement, particularly in tourist-heavy areas like Nha Trang.
Authorities have emphasized that any act of violence against public officials will be handled strictly and in accordance with the law, regardless of the suspect’s nationality.
