A 27-year-old Russian tourist was injured early Thursday morning following an alleged unprovoked attack along Pattaya’s famous Walking Street nightlife district. The incident occurred around 3:50 a.m. on November 20 near the Ice Bar, a busy area known for late-night crowds.
Pattaya Special Affairs officers were the first to encounter the distressed tourist, who ran toward them asking for help. He appeared shaken and was dressed only in shorts at the time of the incident. According to officials, he had a head wound and bruising that required immediate attention.
Rescue personnel from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation arrived shortly afterward to provide first aid before transporting him to a local hospital for further evaluation. Medical staff have not yet released details of his condition, but authorities confirmed that he sustained a significant injury to the scalp.
Officials said the tourist, whose identity has been withheld for safety reasons, claimed he was suddenly attacked by a group of Thai men he described as muscular. According to his statement, one of the men struck him with what he believed to be a glass bottle, prompting him to flee the scene and seek help from nearby officers.
Pattaya City Police are now working to verify the account. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from businesses and security cameras along Walking Street. Police are also gathering statements from witnesses, nearby venue staff, and security personnel who may have seen the events leading up to the assault.
Authorities say tracking down the suspects is a priority. Once identified, the individuals involved could face charges related to assault and causing injury. Officers noted that such attacks, while not common, tend to occur during early morning hours when nightlife venues begin to close and foot traffic can become unpredictable.
Local officials acknowledged that the case has raised renewed concerns about tourist safety in Pattaya’s entertainment zones. Walking Street, one of Thailand’s most visited nightlife destinations, draws thousands of tourists every night. While the majority of evenings pass without incident, occasional reports of altercations or disputes highlight the importance of maintaining strong police presence and cooperation with venue operators.
City officials emphasised that the area is closely monitored through regular patrols and an extensive network of security cameras. They also urged visitors to stay aware of their surroundings, avoid confrontations, and seek assistance immediately if they feel unsafe.
The investigation remains active as police analyse footage and pursue leads. Authorities expect to clarify the sequence of events and identify the individuals responsible in the coming days.
Tourism operators in Pattaya have expressed hope that swift action will reassure both visitors and residents that safety remains a top priority in one of Thailand’s most popular destinations. Police have encouraged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact them to support the ongoing inquiry.
