Saraburi Woman Charged for 300% Interest Loan Scheme

SARABURI, THAILAND — A 20-year-old woman, Sirinapa, known locally for her aggressive behavior, has been charged with operating an illegal money lending scheme targeting vulnerable teenage girls with interest rates as high as 300%.

Authorities in Nong Khae district say Sirinapa’s victims — over 15 girls aged 13 to 16 — were coerced into repaying excessive debts, with some reporting intimidation and violence when unable to meet repayment demands. For example, a loan of 1,300 baht (US$40) reportedly required a repayment of 4,300 baht (US$130).

The case was exposed by Ronnarong Kaewphet, chairman of the Justice Seeker Foundation, who accompanied victims to police. Sirinapa was arrested at her home near the Saraburi–Nakhon Nayok border and charged with unauthorised money lending, physical assault, violence against minors, and prostitution.

At the Saraburi Provincial Court, Sirinapa confessed only to the money lending charge, while denying the others. She appeared stressed and fatigued, declined to apply for bail, and requested a brief private moment with her boyfriend before being remanded.

Deputy Superintendent Pol Lt Col Nikatak Haaken confirmed the investigation is ongoing, with further charges dependent on additional evidence and victim statements.
