SINGAPORE – In a sweeping overnight operation, Singapore police arrested 44 individuals suspected of involvement in vice-related activities, including illegal gambling and prostitution, in the Geylang district.
The multi-agency raid, conducted on May 29 near a food court at Geylang Lorong 23, led to the apprehension of 42 people—aged between 25 and 63—for their alleged roles in running unlawful lotteries.
In a separate but related bust, police also arrested:
✔ A 50-year-old woman at a Geylang Road hotel for offering sexual services
✔ A 49-year-old woman for operating illegal lotteries at the same food court
Potential Penalties
- Illegal gambling: Up to $500,000 fine, 7 years’ jail, or both
- Prostitution offenses: Up to $100,000 fine, 5 years’ jail, or both
- Repeat vice offenders: Up to $150,000 fine, 7 years’ jail, or both
Why It Matters
Geylang has long been a hotspot for vice and illicit activities, prompting frequent police crackdowns. Authorities remain vigilant in enforcing Singapore’s strict laws against gambling and prostitution, which are heavily penalized to deter organized crime.
