Teen Charged After Uber Driver Stabbed 10 Times Outside Gold Coast Shopping Centre

A 16-year-old boy has been charged after a brutal attack left a female Uber driver fighting for her life outside the Coomera Westfield shopping centre on the Gold Coast.

Emergency services were called to the car park on Foxwell Road at about 1:25 a.m. after a security guard discovered the 32-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds. She had been stabbed 10 times in the face, neck, and back while still inside her vehicle.

Paramedics rushed the victim to Gold Coast University Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.

Police believe the attack was unprovoked and that the teenage passenger had no prior connection to the driver.

“We believe the offender has booked a rideshare with that female and has gone from Hope Island to Coomera as part of that rideshare,” Detective Inspector Paul Fletcher said.

A small kitchen knife and two mobile phones were recovered in nearby bushland, though investigators are still determining whether they are linked to the stabbing.

The 16-year-old boy from Upper Coomera has since been charged with:

  • Acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm
  • Armed robbery
  • Deprivation of liberty

He is due to appear before Southport Children’s Court tomorrow.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and have urged witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

The shocking attack has raised safety concerns for rideshare drivers across Queensland, who often work late hours in vulnerable settings.
