Texas Man Charged With Murder After Death of His Mother

A Texas man is facing a murder charge following the death of his 71-year-old mother at their home in Houston, according to police and court records. Authorities say the suspect later admitted to the killing during questioning.

Gerren Miles Crosson, 34, was arrested after Houston Police Department officers responded to an emergency call at a residence in the 11000 block of Harristown Drive on the city’s south side. Police said the call came in at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday and was reported as an assault in progress.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Crosson’s mother, identified in court records as Alta Green Veasley, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Emergency medical responders were called to the home and transported Veasley to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment. Despite doctors’ efforts, she later died from her injuries.

According to court documents, Veasley was able to speak briefly to first responders before losing consciousness. During that time, she identified her son as the person who had attacked her. Her statement was documented by responding officers and included in the official case file.

Crosson was detained at the scene without incident, police said. During questioning, he allegedly admitted to stabbing his mother and made a statement indicating that he believed the act was something he needed to do. Investigators have not released further details about a possible motive, and police said it remains unclear what events led up to the fatal incident.

Following his arrest, Crosson was transported to the Harris County Jail, where he remains in custody. Jail records show that he is being held on a bond set at $750,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for Friday, where prosecutors are expected to formally proceed with the murder charge.

Court records also reveal that this was not the first time Crosson had been accused of violence against his mother. In 2021, police responded to a reported domestic incident involving the pair. At that time, Crosson was accused of striking his mother during an argument over food. He was charged with injury to an elderly person, though the case was later dismissed, according to police records.

In addition to the prior domestic case, Crosson has a criminal history that includes a conviction for evading police in 2010, to which he pleaded guilty.

The Houston Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Veasley’s death. Authorities have not indicated whether additional charges may be filed or if mental health evaluations will play a role in the case moving forward.

The incident has once again drawn attention to issues surrounding family violence and the challenges faced by law enforcement in preventing repeat domestic incidents. Prosecutors are expected to present further details as the case progresses through the court system.
