Thai Customs Seizes 33.7kg of Meth Hidden in Lathe Machine Bound for Australia
Bangkok, Thailand — Thai Customs officials have intercepted a major drug shipment after discovering 33.7 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed inside a lathe machine intended for export to Australia. The seizure, made on May 26 at Bangkok Port in Klong Toey, carries an estimated street value exceeding 100 million baht upon arrival in Australia.
The operation followed a routine scan of a wooden crate declared as machinery. Upon closer inspection, officials uncovered 26 foil packets of meth hidden within the equipment, packed in two plastic bags. The drugs were confirmed through testing.
Nunthita Sirikup, principal adviser on customs control development, said the bust is part of an ongoing crackdown. From October 1, 2024, to May 30, 2025, the Customs Department has recorded 156 drug-smuggling cases, with total seizures valued at over 922 million baht.
Officials say investigations are underway to trace the origin and intended recipients of the shipment.
