Thai Man Murders Gay Couple, Claims Self-Defence

A 26-year-old Thai man has been arrested for the brutal murder of an elderly LGBTQIA+ couple in Loei province, claiming the victims attempted to sexually assault him. The suspect, Jaksin Jaroensuk, was apprehended with stolen property and drugs.

Police discovered the bodies of 69-year-old Pranom and 65-year-old Winai in their Phu Kradueng home on the morning of December 6. Both victims had suffered severe injuries. A bloody crowbar and a one-metre billhook knife were found at the scene, alongside evidence of ransacking. Neighbours, who made the grim discovery, immediately directed officers to the victims’ nephew, Jaksin, who had been a recent guest.

Authorities tracked Jaksin to a local restaurant, where he was arrested while riding the victims’ stolen motorcycle. A search revealed 79 methamphetamine pills, 5,000 baht in cash, and personal items belonging to the deceased men, including an ID card and bankbook.

During interrogation, Jaksin admitted to the killings but presented a contentious justification. He stated he had known the couple through a former LGBTQIA+ partner and maintained contact after his partner’s death. He alleged that Pranom had made a sexual advance and attempted to assault him, provoking a violent reaction. Enraged, Jaksin claimed he attacked Pranom with the crowbar. When Pranom fled to Winai for help, Jaksin stated he then struck Winai, killing him, before turning back to fatally assault Pranom with both the crowbar and the knife.

Following the murders, Jaksin confessed to stealing a bag containing approximately 7,000 baht. He used part of the money to purchase 100 methamphetamine pills, which he later shared with an acquaintance.

Police have charged Jaksin with multiple offences, including intentional murder, theft, possession of a Category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine), and drug use. The suspect’s claim of attempted sexual assault is under investigation as part of the ongoing case proceedings.
