Thai Teacher Fatally Shoots Student’s Uncle After Sexual Assault Accusation
A male teacher in Phetchabun province has been charged with murder after fatally shooting his student’s uncle during a heated confrontation over an alleged sexual assault. The incident occurred in Napa district and has left the local community shocked.
Police from Mueang Phetchabun Police Station were called to a home where they found 43-year-old Thaweesak dead from two gunshot wounds to the ribcage. The suspect, identified as 45-year-old teacher Chaiyan, fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
According to witness statements, the events began when Chaiyan drove his 14-year-old student home from her friend’s house and later joined her relatives for drinks. While he was there, the girl told her grandmother that Chaiyan had touched her arms and neck in the car. She reportedly cried while recounting the incident.
The grandmother confronted Chaiyan, and Thaweesak — who had been drinking — became enraged, attacking the teacher. Chaiyan fled to his vehicle but soon returned with a firearm. He shot Thaweesak twice before escaping.
Shortly after, Chaiyan contacted police to arrange his surrender. When officers met him, they rushed him to the hospital due to injuries sustained during the altercation. While admitting to the shooting, Chaiyan denied any sexual intent, claiming he merely touched the girl’s head affectionately, as he does with other students.
The girl, however, has maintained her account of the assault. Police will conduct further interviews with her in the presence of a multidisciplinary team to assess the allegations.
Authorities have charged Chaiyan under Section 288 of the Criminal Code for intentional murder — an offense punishable by death, life imprisonment, or 15–20 years in prison. He also faces a firearms charge under Section 8 of the Firearms Act for carrying a weapon in public without a license, which carries a penalty of up to five years in prison, a fine of up to 10,000 baht, or both.
The case remains under investigation as police work to clarify the circumstances surrounding both the shooting and the assault accusation.
