PERTH — In what has been described as one of the most depraved murders in Western Australia’s history, Alexander Mark Sutton has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the brutal and premeditated killing of Patrik Weiss, a Perth father and former masseuse.
The 19-year-old kept a disturbing journal that detailed his intent to torture and kill. Sutton connected with the 45-year-old Weiss through a sex fetish website and spent months grooming and planning the encounter. Weiss eventually agreed to a meet-up at his Lockridge home in Perth’s northeast, where he was later found bound, gagged, and blindfolded in his bedroom.
Once inside, Sutton struck Weiss twice in the head with an axe, fracturing his skull and causing his death.
Police later uncovered graphic and sadistic journal entries in Sutton’s home. Among them:
“I am going to kill him to see the blood.”
“He will be a guinea pig. Maybe I will eat part of him to see if I like it.”
Sutton had also posted ominous messages to social media:
“I’M GOING TO KILL SOMEONE IN THREE WEEKS… HE’S PUTTING HIMSELF IN SUCH A VULNERABLE POSITION.”
“IT’S LIKE CHRISTMAS MORNING AND A PRESENT HAS BEEN PUT IN FRONT OF ME.”
Describing the crime as “the stuff of horror movies,” Sutton’s lawyer admitted it was “as close to an example of evil as one can imagine.” She confirmed Sutton had meticulously planned the killing for months, exploiting Weiss’s trust in order to enact perverse fantasies.
Weiss’s former partner, reading impact statements in court, broke down in tears. Their daughter expressed confusion and sorrow over how someone could commit such a heinous act. Weiss’s son said the murder devastated their entire family and altered their lives irreparably.
Sutton will serve a life sentence with a minimum of 20 years before being eligible for parole.
