Wyoming Man Charged After Russian Roulette Threat

A 38-year-old man from Wyoming, identified as Jonathan Douglas Potter, is facing two counts of aggravated assault and battery after allegedly pulling a gun on two women and threatening to play Russian roulette. If convicted, Potter could face up to ten years in prison.

The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday in Cheyenne. According to an arrest affidavit obtained by Cowboy State Daily, Potter arrived at a woman’s home to deliver medication while accompanied by another woman. After entering the home and using the bathroom, he reportedly told the women he needed to get “strapped,” before pulling out a Bersa .380-caliber pistol.

Potter then allegedly removed the magazine, placed his finger through the trigger guard, and began swinging the firearm around, claiming he was going to play Russian roulette. Both women told Laramie County deputies they feared for their lives.

The woman who lived at the residence said she asked Potter to leave several times. The second woman, who had arrived with him, reportedly hid in the bathroom during the encounter. Responding deputies noted the presence of alcohol during the incident.

When law enforcement arrived, Potter was found standing outside the house. He claimed he had just stepped out for a cigarette and didn’t understand what was happening. He later admitted to pulling the gun but denied pointing it at anyone. Despite this, he allegedly acknowledged that “the way he went about the situation… was wrong.”

Potter is currently being held at the Laramie County Detention Center as the investigation continues.
