Thai Actress Marie Broenner Charged With Drunk Driving After Checkpoint Incident

A late-night confrontation at a Bangkok police checkpoint has left Thai actress Marie Broenner facing a drunk driving charge and her wealthy partner charged with obstructing police.

The incident unfolded in the early hours of August 24 on Pradit Manutham Road in the Wang Thong Lang district, when officers from the Wang Thong Lang Police Station stopped a green Porsche driven by the 33-year-old actress.

Beside her was Asakon “Boss” Singsikornkun, a high-society businessman, with his teenage daughter in the back seat.

Suspicion of drunk driving

Police said Marie appeared intoxicated when approached, prompting them to request a breathalyser test. Instead of complying, she allegedly refused, while Boss attempted to prevent her from cooperating. Officers reported that the couple rolled up the car windows and refused to engage, forcing them to knock repeatedly for over an hour.

Eventually, Boss exited the vehicle but engaged in a heated confrontation with police. Witnesses reported he shouted vulgar insults and claimed he had close ties to senior officers. Marie later stepped out of the car but continued to refuse the alcohol test. She requested to use the restroom but was told she needed to complete the test first.

Her refusal led police to charge her with drunk driving based on her behaviour and refusal to cooperate with testing.

Boyfriend faces separate charges

Meanwhile, Boss was charged with insulting and obstructing officials after repeatedly preventing officers from transferring Marie to the police station.

Both were taken into custody and later granted temporary release: Marie on 20,000 baht bail and Boss under similar conditions. Marie is scheduled to appear before the Criminal Court on August 25 for further proceedings.

A relationship in the spotlight

The high-profile arrest also cast a spotlight on Marie and Boss’s personal relationship, which had not previously been publicly confirmed. Reports suggest the two have been together since Boss’s divorce, though speculation about their status had circulated in gossip columns before this incident.

Boss’s personal life has already drawn public attention. He previously made headlines for his tumultuous marriage to actress and singer Nachjaree “Cherreen” Horvejkul, a former member of the Thai pop group Kamikaze. Their marriage ended in divorce after allegations of domestic violence, and the pair share one daughter.

Public reaction and police stance

The case has stirred debate on social media, with some criticizing Marie’s refusal to comply with officers and others accusing her boyfriend of abusing his social influence. Critics argue the incident underscores issues of celebrity privilege and the perception that wealthy or high-profile figures can defy the law.

Police officials have stressed that the law applies equally to everyone. A spokesperson for the Wang Thong Lang Police Station confirmed that charges would proceed despite the pair’s celebrity status, and that both Marie and Boss would be required to face trial.

What comes next

Marie’s refusal to take a breath test may prove pivotal in court. Under Thai law, refusal is treated as evidence of intoxicated driving and carries penalties similar to failing a test. If convicted, she could face fines, suspension of her driving license, or even jail time, depending on the severity of the court’s ruling.

Boss, meanwhile, could face penalties for obstructing officers and insulting law enforcement personnel — charges that carry both financial and legal consequences.

As the case proceeds in court, it remains to be seen how this high-profile scandal will impact both Marie’s acting career and Boss’s public image. For now, the incident serves as a reminder that no amount of celebrity or social standing exempts anyone from the law.
