Police investigating man over Joo Chiat murder
Singapore police are investigating a 40-year-old man in connection with the alleged murder of a 43-year-old woman whose body was discovered in a condominium unit along Everitt Road.
Authorities said they received a call for assistance at around 9.30pm on Monday. When officers arrived at the Lotus @ Joo Chiat residence, they found the woman lying motionless inside the unit. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary findings revealed that the suspect, who was known to the victim, had already left Singapore prior to the police response. Investigations into his whereabouts and possible motives are ongoing.
A neighbor, who declined to be identified, recalled seeing police officers at the unit on Tuesday morning. The unit had been occupied by a couple, their young child, and two domestic helpers.
The neighbor described the family as quiet and reserved, with limited interactions with others in the condominium. She said the man often came across as “shy and reserved,” while the helpers were frequently seen caring for the child.
“Everybody is quite upset,” the neighbor told CNA. “People are talking, they are really concerned, and also upset that we’re just not being told anything.”
The case has unsettled the Joo Chiat community, with residents seeking answers as police continue their investigations. Authorities have yet to disclose further details, but the focus remains on tracing the man believed to have left the country shortly before the discovery of the woman’s body.
