A man who allegedly fled to Thailand after stealing 11 Hermes handbags and a Van Cleef & Arpels necklace—with a combined value of nearly HK$3 million (12.5 million baht)—has been arrested and will be extradited to Hong Kong, the South China Morning Post reports.
According to sources, the suspect entered a luxury boutique in Tsim Sha Tsui on Wednesday, where he rendered a 42-year-old staff member unconscious and tied her up before escaping with the high-value items.
The incident began when the suspect, wearing a black hat, glasses, and a black face mask, entered the store around 9:30 a.m. local time and inquired about a white Hermes handbag. He claimed he needed to withdraw cash and left.
At approximately 12:10 p.m., the suspect returned and purchased the bag, then asked to stay longer to browse. Without warning, he allegedly covered the employee’s face with a towel, causing her to lose consciousness.
When the woman awoke, she found herself tied up but managed to free herself with a cutter and call for help. Authorities later confirmed that 11 pre-owned Hermes bags worth HK$2 million and a gold necklace worth HK$1 million had been stolen.
The suspect reportedly fled to Thailand soon after the robbery. However, authorities tracked his movements, leading to his arrest by Thai officials. He is expected to be extradited back to Hong Kong on Thursday.
The Hong Kong Police are scheduled to provide further details during a press conference Thursday afternoon.
