A Burmese man has been arrested after allegedly murdering his wife in a hotel in the Mueang district of Samut Prakan province, Thailand. The incident unfolded yesterday, July 6, around 12.30pm, when hotel staff reported suspicious behavior outside one of the rooms.
Police Lieutenant Panyawat Khamsi from Samut Prakan Mueang Police Station received a distress call and responded swiftly alongside forensic officers and rescue teams from the Ruamkuson Samut Prakan Foundation.
Upon arrival, officers found a man pacing nervously outside a room on the hotel’s second floor. He appeared anxious and was unable to communicate in Thai, raising further suspicion. Officers noticed visible scratch marks on his body, suggesting a struggle had taken place.
After detaining the man, police entered the hotel room to discover the lifeless body of a woman lying on the bed. She was dressed in a tank top and jeans, and a nylon rope was tightly wound around her neck. Forensic teams determined she had been dead for roughly an hour before discovery.
The suspect was identified as Kim, a 41-year-old Myanmar national. The victim was confirmed to be his 31-year-old wife, also from Myanmar.
According to hotel staff, the couple had checked into the room around 9.30am that morning. By noon, the maid noticed Kim loitering outside the room in a distressed state. When she tried to speak with him, he did not answer. Sensing something was wrong, she peeked into the room and was horrified to find the woman dead. She immediately alerted authorities.
During police interrogation, Kim confessed to strangling his wife with the nylon rope following an intense argument. He claimed he had discovered she was unfaithful and, in a fit of rage, attacked her.
Authorities have sent the woman’s body to the forensic institute at Ramathibodi Hospital for a full autopsy. Kim has been taken into custody for further questioning and legal proceedings.
The case highlights ongoing issues of domestic violence and the tragic outcomes that can arise from interpersonal conflicts, leaving the local community shocked and saddened by the incident.
