Gold Coast Man Hospitalised After Violent Machete Attack During Home Invasion
A 29-year-old man has been left in a serious condition after he was allegedly attacked with a machete during a violent home invasion on the Gold Coast in the early hours of Monday morning.
Queensland Police confirmed that two people forced their way into a residence on Baileys Mountain Road in Upper Coomera at around 3:45am. Once inside, the intruders assaulted the male resident, inflicting significant injuries to his arm.
The man, whose identity has not been publicly released, was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital by someone known to him before paramedics arrived on the scene. Hospital staff later reported that he remains in a serious condition while receiving treatment for his wounds.
Local residents were shocked by the incident, with one neighbour telling 9News he heard sounds of “arguing” in the early hours, followed by a car “going over metal grates.” The neighbour said he didn’t realise the extent of what had occurred until daylight, when he saw police tape cordoning off the property and learned of the violent attack.
Forensic officers spent much of the day examining the property for evidence, combing through the scene to piece together what happened during the pre-dawn break-in. Police have not yet apprehended the suspects but believe the attackers are known to the victim, suggesting a targeted incident rather than a random act of violence.
The terrifying assault has reignited concerns among locals about rising violent crime on the Gold Coast, where machetes and knives have featured in a spate of recent home invasions and assaults. Upper Coomera, in particular, has seen an increase in reports of burglary and violent offences, leaving many residents anxious about their safety.
Queensland Police are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the attackers. Anyone who was in the area around Baileys Mountain Road between 3:00am and 4:00am and who may have seen suspicious activity, vehicles, or individuals is urged to come forward. Investigators are particularly interested in any dashcam or CCTV footage that might help pinpoint the movements of the suspects before or after the attack.
“This was a vicious attack, and we’re determined to identify those responsible as quickly as possible,” a Queensland Police spokesperson said. “If anyone has information, even if it seems minor, please come forward. It could be vital to the investigation.”
Meanwhile, community safety advocates are calling for increased police patrols and better lighting in the area to deter further violent incidents. Many residents are also considering additional security measures, such as installing cameras and reinforced locks.
As the investigation continues, the Gold Coast community remains on edge, hoping for a swift arrest to bring those responsible to justice.
