FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A Florida man is behind bars, charged with gunning down a rival inside a convenience store in what police believe was a calculated act of retaliation. Authorities say the suspect’s sister was the getaway driver and has also been arrested.
Warren Pollock, 24, of Hephzibah, Georgia, is accused of murdering 34-year-old Steven Black on March 13, 2022, inside Tony’s Market on Northwest 22nd Road in Fort Lauderdale. His sister, Wanisha Pollock, 29, is facing charges of being an accessory after the fact.
Surveillance Footage Captures the Murder
According to police, around 6:50 p.m. on the day of the shooting, officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a man shot inside the store. When authorities arrived, they found Black suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy confirmed the cause of death was homicide due to multiple gunshot wounds.
Security footage from the store showed a man dressed in black, including a hood, enter the premises just after Black was seen speaking with a group near the exit. Within seconds, the suspect raised a firearm and opened fire on Black. As bystanders scattered, the shooter fled the scene.
A Getaway Car Tied to the Suspect’s Sister
The shooter was seen running to a Nissan Altima, which quickly sped away. Investigators identified the vehicle using license plate reader technology and discovered it was registered to Wanisha Pollock.
When questioned by authorities, Wanisha refused to cooperate, requesting legal representation. However, mounting evidence began to tie both siblings to the deadly encounter.
A Violent Chain of Events
The murder appeared to be the climax of a chain of violent incidents that started earlier that same day. At around 1:30 p.m., Black allegedly struck a man during an altercation in Lauderhill, a nearby city west of Fort Lauderdale.
According to court documents, Black had accompanied a friend to visit the mother of the friend’s child. An argument ensued, and Black allegedly punched the woman’s father or stepfather in the face, causing serious injury. A photograph taken during or after the incident was shared on social media, possibly escalating tensions.
Just hours later, surveillance footage revealed that Wanisha’s Nissan Altima passed Tony’s Market over a dozen times—suggesting the pair were actively hunting Black. By 6:45 p.m., the car parked just 150 feet away, setting the stage for a rapid escape.
A Retaliation Killing
The next day, authorities discovered that the home where the punch occurred had also been sprayed with gunfire, further pointing to a retaliatory feud. Investigators concluded that the fatal shooting was likely payback for the earlier battery.
A background check revealed Warren Pollock was on felony probation for a 2017 conviction involving armed robbery and possession of a firearm. Witness descriptions from the store matched his physical build.
Phone and Ballistic Evidence Strengthen Case
Wanisha’s phone records provided further proof of coordination. Between March 12 and March 21, 2022, she exchanged 114 calls with the stepson of the man who had been punched by Black. On the day of the murder, she contacted this man several times, as well as her brother. One anonymous call was also placed to Black’s friend — the same one he had accompanied earlier that day.
Warren’s cellphone was also key: it was active up until about an hour before the shooting and located near Tony’s Market. It was later turned back on after the murder, pinging from a tower closest to his residence.
Further forensic testing connected shell casings from the store to those used in a 2021 aggravated assault in Miami Gardens, where the Pollock siblings once lived. In that incident, a neighbor believed their home had been targeted due to a prior disturbance involving the Pollocks.
Gun Used Linked to Robberies
Detectives also discovered that the same firearm used to kill Black had been involved in a string of armed robberies in Miami Beach the week after the murder. That weapon was later recovered from a man connected to Warren Pollock, strengthening the case against him.
Arrests and Upcoming Court Dates
On July 8, 2025, U.S. Marshals arrested Warren Pollock in Augusta, Georgia, and he remains in custody at the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office awaiting extradition.
Wanisha Pollock was arrested on July 10 and released after posting a $20,000 bond. She is due in court for arraignment on August 11.
Police say the evidence paints a clear picture of a premeditated act of revenge carried out with the aid of a family member. Both siblings now face serious consequences for their alleged roles in a crime that has shaken the Fort Lauderdale community.
