12 Year Old Charged with Attempted Murder in Ipswich 2

A 12-year-old girl has been charged with attempted murder following an alleged stabbing incident at Augustine Heights in Ipswich, west of Brisbane, on Sunday afternoon.

According to Queensland Police, emergency services were called to a residence at around 4 p.m. where they discovered a 55-year-old woman suffering from a stab wound to the chest. The victim was rushed to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious but stable condition, where she remains under medical care.

Authorities confirmed that the accused girl lived with the victim. In addition to the attempted murder charge, she was also charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle. Police have not disclosed further details regarding the vehicle-related charge.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported that the child is known to Queensland’s Child Safety Department, raising questions about her background and previous involvement with state services.

The girl was remanded in custody and appeared before Ipswich Children’s Court on Monday. The hearing was adjourned until Tuesday as investigations into the incident continue.

Police have not revealed a possible motive behind the alleged attack but confirmed that inquiries are ongoing. The case has shocked the Ipswich community, with many expressing concern about the age of the accused and the severity of the alleged crime.

Juvenile cases of such a serious nature are rare in Australia, and the outcome of this case is expected to prompt further discussion on youth crime, child safety, and the adequacy of support systems in place for vulnerable children.

For now, both the victim’s recovery and the child’s legal proceedings remain at the center of the investigation. Authorities are expected to release further updates as the case develops.
